Raised around the music of The Carpenters and the Bluegrass sounds of Flatts & Scruggs,
Mojo Moomey found Rock Music with the help of a childhood friend. Cindy Lauper was the first introduction but it got better. Much better. Quiet Riot-Metal Health was his introduction into Heavy Metal music and along with that came Mötley Crue, Kiss, Dokken...etc.
“The first Record I remember owning is the single for Dokken-Dream Warriors/Back For The Attack. I had this small Sesame Street record player and I would blare Dream Warriors constantly. I think I ruined the speaker on that thing”.
Fast forward to 2005. Fronting his own band, Blown Soul Engine, played many gigs in and around Southern Iowa not getting much exposure except for a Top 5 finish in a local Rock Radio contest and an invitation to record a studio quality single.
“That was the only real attention that our band got. We were told that our Single would be shopped around but never heard anymore than that.”
Always having a love for Radio, Mojo got the chance to host his own show on 91.9 KSOI in Southern Iowa. After a few years of perfecting his show, he ventured into playing unheard bands and giving them the attention they deserve. “There are so many great bands out there that unfortunately don’t get heard on popular radio stations. That’s where I come in. And I’ll do my best to promote you as much as I can.”
Bands from all over the world are sending him music. Belfast Northern Ireland, England and here at home, Mojo Moomey is gaining quite the following. “Any given Friday Night you can tune in to Mojo Rocks and hear Wild Heat from Ireland, Grand Design from Sweden or Lypswitch, Sinister’s Army, Black Rose Reception and Electric Radio Kings from here in the U.S., so many great bands that deserve to be Rocked in your Stereo.”
